After thirty years in the publishing business, Kent sold his company in the spring of 1999 and began volunteering full-time. In the fall of 2003 during a prayer retreat in Kansas City, he received a prophetic word about mentoring men in the 'inner city.'
Within four days of his return to Minneapolis, he received an invitation to teach the Alpha Course at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in the 'inner-city' of Minneapolis. Two years later he and his wife Betty would form a non-profit, purchase a house and begin the work that has come to be called VERUS COMMUNITY.

Michael brings a wealth of financial and strategic leadership expertise to Verus. He has spent his entire career in the financial services industry including Divisional Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Thrivent Financial; Vice President/National Sales Director, IDS/American Express, and holding executive positions with Piper Jaffray and Lutheran Brotherhood. He now runs his own financial consulting company, RxV Consulting, assisting clients with financial planning and wealth management.
More importantly, Mike has a special heart for men with alcohol and addiction issues and plays a vital role with the residents at Verus House. He also serves on the advisory board of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis.
